Yes, this is possible. The SmartRow hardware can be used with multiple accounts and/or multiple devices. If you only use one device with multiple users, you’d have to log in and log out to change the user.

You do not have to register an account to enjoy the SmartRow power meter. But if you register an account, and you are logged in, all your workouts will be stored on the server and will always be available on other devices. If you don’t, your workout-data will get lost when you switch to another device. Additionally, you enjoy benefits such as personalized heart rate zones, extensive workout summary and you can join monthly challenges.

A profile picture and/or a nearby Bluetooth connection may contain location data. Therefore Android and/or Apple requires apps to request location permission. SmartRow does not use your location data in any form.

You can personalize almost all the metrics (settings; change display settings) and choose from the list below:

  • Power [W] - the power in Watts, of the last stroke
  • Ave. power [W] - the average power in Watts since the start of your workout
  • Energy [Kcal] - the energy burnt in calories since the start of the workout
  • Str./min - the actual number of strokes per minute
  • Str.length [cm] - length of the last stroke (Power Pulley only)
  • Str.time [s] - time of the last stroke (Power Handle only)
  • Str.count - number of strokes since the start of the workout
  • Work [J] - the energy, in Joules, of the last stroke
  • Peak force [N] - the maximum force, in Newton, during the last stroke
  • Speed / 500m - the 500 meter split-time, of the last stroke
  • Ave. speed /500m - the average 500 meter split-time, since the start of the workout
  • Speed [m/s] - the speed in m/s, of the last stroke
  • Speed [km/h] - the speed in km/h, of the last stroke
  • Speed [kCal/h] - the speed in kCal/h, of the last stroke
  • Distance [m] – the rowed distance in meters
  • Heartrate [BPM] – your realtime heartrate in beats per minute

These are professional fitness indicators. After a workout, the SmartRow app divides the average power by the weight you entered in ‘profile settings’. If you are using a heartrate monitor, the app will show you the ‘Watt/beat’, which is the division of average power and average heartrate.

The pace boat is a tool to keep a stable rowing speed. You can set the pace of the “boat” as your target and try to keep up during rowing. This way, you can try to achieve a new goal or improve your personal record.

You can enable the pace boat in the “Settings” section of the app and set the speed (in splittime, min/500m).

The pace boat is shown as a circle of 100m that you have to keep up. The inner circle is the pace boat and the outer circle reflects your realtime rowing (is your boat).

When meters are shown in red, it means that you are lagging behind the paceboat. If the meters are shown in green, these are the meters that you are ahead of the paceboat.

You can export your workouts for Strava, Garmin Connect (.tcx file), Training peaks (.tcx file) and Excel (.csv file).

Link your SmartRow account to your Strava account from the 'Settings'  sections of the app or in the Account section on this website. Please note that sometimes it can take a while for your workouts to sync.

Please double check the time zone settings in your Strava account.

Go to 'My Workouts' on this website and choose to export a single workout or export all workouts.
You can manually upload these export files into the service of your choice.

Not all services allow rowing to be selected as the sport type automatically. Change the type of sport after importing the files.

You have to manually export your data from the SmartRow website and import it in the Garmin Connect app. SmartRow would love to implement an automatic connection. However, Garmin is not willing to cooperate at the moment, so this isn’t possible yet.

The SmartRow app is compatible with most Bluetooth Heartrate straps on the market. Please make sure it uses the open standardized Bluetooth protocol. We recommend using the Polar H7 / H10 (a chest strap is the most accurate) or the Polar OH1 if you’d prefer an optical heart rate monitor.

Smartwatches can be used to transmit heartrate via Bluetooth to the SmartRow app. Please make sure these watches use the open standardized Bluetooth protocol and not an ANT+ protocol. Watches below are able to transmit HR data to the SmartRow
app:

  • Garmin Fenix 6 Pro Solar
  • Garmin Fenix 7
  • Garmin Venu 2
  • Garmin Instinct Solar
  • Polar Grit X Pro
  • Polar ignite 2
  • Apple Watch (beta)

  • Connect you heart rate monitor in the app only, and do not connect this in the Bluetooth settings of your device. The SmartRow app will not be able to detect the HRM if you do. Reset the BT configuration from your device and/or switch your Bluetooth off and on.
  • Make sure you run the latest software on your device and run the latest SmartRow app.

SmartRowers have requested to connect to either Kinomap, EXR, Zwift, Bitgym, Regatta, ImersU Row and Holofit to make their workouts more attractive. A new feature is developed to broadcast the SmartRow data via Bluetooth to these third party apps. This way, you can store your workout data in the SmartRow app and still broadcast to your favorite app.

The SmartRow app usually runs on your smartphone, while using another app on your tablet or Apple TV. After the SmartRow app is connected to the SmartRow power meter, you can select the required 'broadcasting' option  before starting a workout on both devices.

In close cooperation with the developers of the third party apps, we optimized the connection and the 'real-time' experience during a workout with your SmartRow. You are able to broadcast your SmartRow data to: EXR, Kinomap, Zwift, Bitgym, Regatta, ImersU, Holofit and ErgZone. We expect to connect to more third party apps in the future.
