What is the SmartRow Power Handle?
The SmartRow Power Handle is the world’s first direct powermeter build-in an ergonomical handle for chain rowing machines. This powermeter measures the power in a radical new way. The accurate data gives you the opportunity to race or train with anyone on any machine, and benchmark your results cross platform.
What are the advantages of the SmartRow Power Handle?
- First and foremost: its accuracy. The patented True Power Technology measures the absolute force of your stroke, and the displacement by monitoring the vibrations of your chain.
- With the 4 double functioning, integrated buttons, you can control your favourite apps and devices. You can start or finish a SmartRow workout, switch tabs in the SmartRow app during training, listen to music and watch videos, right from your seat!
The SmartRow Power Handle works with over 40 brands of rowing machines, which makes SmartRow a neutral platform for comparison.
Why is there a difference between the results of the monitor of my rowing machine and the SmartRow Power Handle?
The monitor on your rowing machine shows the rowing data based on the revolutions of the flywheel. This is an indirect way of measuring and calculating the rowed distance and produced power. This is still dependent of the tightness of the recoil bungee, the friction in your rowingmachine, rowing style and type of workout. That is why these numbers are not consistent and less comparable with your previous workouts and workouts from fellow rowers, both on the same or on different brand machines.
The SmartRow Power Handle measures the actual displacement and the actual force, directly where it is applied. With the patented True Power Technology, the SmartRow power meter can provide power readings that are independent of external factors or rowing technique.
On some rowing machines, this results in huge differences between the monitor of the rowing machine and the SmartRow measurements. Even the bigger brands show differences comparable to the lab-grade way SmartRow measures the rowing data.

How do I connect the Power Handle?
You can remove the original handle from the rowing machine, and connect the SmartRow Power Handle using a screwdriver and a 7 mm wrench. The installation will only take a few minutes. Please watch the installation video HERE.
Do I have to calibrate the SmartRow Power Handle as, for instance, with a powermeter on a bike?
You don’t have to calibrate anything at all! SmartRow will calibrate itself, and in doing so, it automatically adjusts for changes in the recoil bungee over temperature and time.
What batteries should I use and how many hours can I row on my batteries?
Batteries are not included in the product. We advise 2 x AA Alkaline batteries. Other 1,5 Volt AA batteries or rechargeable batteries will do, but this may affect the number of hours you can row. With good battery quality you can row up to 100 hours.
When do I need to change the batteries?
After switching on the Handle, the green LED stays on when the battery level is ok. If the battery level is low, the green LED will switch off. At this point, you can finish your workout or race. If the battery level is way too low, the green LED will blink for a couple of seconds and the Handle will switch itself off.
How do I turn the SmartRow Power Handle on and off?
Press the Home/Power button for 0,5 sec to turn on your Power Handle, and you will see the blue LED blinking on the Handle. After the SmartRow Handle has been inactive for 1 minute, and is no longer connected via Bluetooth, it will automatically turn off. You can also turn off the handle yourself by a long press of the Home/Power button.
The blue LED is blinking, now what?
The SmartRow Handle is searching for a Bluetooth connection. Open the SmartRow app and press the Bluetooth button or go to settings to initiate a connection. Press the two digit SmartRow ID-number that comes up for establishing the connection. The Blue LED will stop blinking when the connection is established.
The blue LED on the SmartRow Power Handle does not blink?
If not, please try the following:
- Check your batteries.
- Make sure the SmartRow is not already (automatically) connected to one of your devices. To be 100% sure, only enable Bluetooth on the device you want to pair with.
The blue LED is blinking but I can’t get a Bluetooth connection, now what?
- Connect your SmartRow in the app only, and do not connect in the Bluetooth settings of your device. If this is the case, please reset your Bluetooth
configuration of your device and/or switch your Bluetooth off and on and try again. - Make sure you run the latest software on your device and update the SmartRow app regularly.
- Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled.
- If all the above does not solve the problem, please try to connect the SmartRow with a different phone or tablet.
Are you connected to the right SmartRow Handle? If you initiate a connection the blinking blue LED should turn off within two seconds. If the LED of your SmartRow keeps blinking, you are probably connected to a different SmartRow. Here, the two digit ID-number of the SmartRow will come in handy.
What can I do with the buttons?
You can either choose to use the controls:
- To walk through the SmartRow app (iOS and Android)
- As a multimedia remote: operate other apps like YouTube, Netflix and Spotify and Apple Music (depending on your mobile operating system).
How can I change the purpose of the controls?
After you’ve connected your SmartRow Power Handle to the SmartRow app, you’ll see a Handle icon in the right, lower corner outside the circle in the startscreen. Press this, and you can choose how to use your SmartRow Power Handle.
How can I clean the SmartRow Power Handle?
If cleaning is required, please use a soft cloth. If necessary only clean the grips dampened with a minimal amount of water or diluted mild soap. Do not expose the product to:
- alcohol, ammonia, benzene or abrasives
- excessive heat
- excessive dripping or splashing
Is there a warranty included with the SmartRow Power Handle?
Ergometer Innovations BV warrants this product as free of defects in material, design and workmanship for the period of twenty-four months from the original date of receipt of the product.
- The warranty is only valid upon presentation of the proof of purchase for the product consisting of the original invoice or sales slip confirmation. Contact: info@smartrow.fit.
- Warranty repair may only be carried out by Ergometer Innovations BV.
- The warranty does not cover damage caused to the product by using improper cleaning materials or exposure to liquid or extreme thermal or environmental conditions.
How does the return process work?
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason you're not happy with your order, you can return it within 14 days of the delivery date.

Once we receive and inspect the returned Power Handle, we will issue your refund within 5–10 business days to your original payment method. You will receive an email confirmation when your refund has been processed.
When will my order ship and how much does it cost?
Orders are typically processed and shipped within 1-3 business days after payment is received. You will receive a confirmation email with tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.
We currently ship only to The Netherlands and standard shipping usually takes 1-2 business days. Shipping costs are included in the product price.
