What is the SmartRow for WaterRower?
The SmartRow for WaterRower, also known as the SmartRow Power Pulley, is the world’s first direct power meter for a WaterRower, that measures the power in a radical new way. The electronics inside the pulley measures the force and stroke length to calculate the power. This is independent of the water level in your tank, the tightness of the recoil bungee or your stroke frequency. The accurate data is presented wirelessly to a mobile device like a smartphone or a tablet.
What are the advantages of a SmartRow Power Pulley?
First and foremost, it offers exceptional accuracy, providing the best feedback for your workout. It allows you to optimize your rowing technique by showing you the force curve for each stroke. A heart rate sensor can also be easily connected, and the results are displayed in real-time during your workout. Storing all your workouts on your mobile device is another great benefit, as it enables you to track your progress and see improvements over time. With a SmartRow power meter, you can now race against or benchmark your performance with anyone else who uses one, adding a competitive edge to your training.
In which rowing machines can the Power Pulley be used?
The pulley suits all the official WaterRower rowing machines, except the M1 and S1 models. Go to www.waterrower.com to check all the models. The WaterRower Performance has a SmartRow Power Pulley already build in and would be advised.
Can I connect the SmartRow app with the S4 monitor of a WaterRower?
No, you can’t. SmartRow is an independent power meter and is not connected to the S4 monitor.
Why is there a difference between the results of the S4-monitor and the SmartRow Power Pulley?
The S4 monitor measures the number of revolutions of the scoop inside the water tank and estimates the rowed distance and produced power. Due to different water levels, different stroke frequencies, and different accelerations these numbers are not consistent and less comparable with previous workouts and workouts from fellow rowers.
SmartRow is the first calibrated power meter used in a rowing machine. The electronics inside the SmartRow uses sensors for force and displacement. The SmartRow measures produced power in a direct way, and then calculates the distance rowed, using a mathematical boat model that is standard in the industry. This leads to accurate and comparable results. Therefore the SmartRow is the best
tool to quantify your workouts.

Where can I buy the SmartRow Power Pulley?

How do I install the SmartRow Power pulley?
The pulley can be easily installed. Please watch the installation video HERE.
Do I have to calibrate the Power Pulley as for instance with a powermeter on a bike?
You don’t have to calibrate anything at all! SmartRow Power Pulley will calibrate itself, and in doing so, it automatically adjusts for changes in the recoil bungee over temperature and time.
What batteries should I use and how many hours can I row on my batteries?
We advise 3 x AA 2600mAh Alkaline batteries. With most battery qualities you can row at least 150 hours. Other 1,5 Volt AA’s or rechargeable batteries will do, but this will affect the number of hours you can row.
Can I play music during my SmartRow workout?
Yes, you can! The Bluetooth connection is designed in a way you can use a different Bluetooth connection to play music while you are working out.
Can I watch Youtube or other video apps during my SmartRow workout?
Yes, you can! The SmartRow app is designed to work with the split screen function on your tablet (iOS and Samsung tablets). This allows you to use a second app next to your SmartRow app.
How do I turn the SmartRow Power Pulley on?
One stroke will activate the SmartRow. When you see two blinking blue LED’s the SmartRow will start searching for a connection. If there is no Bluetooth connection within 1 minute it will turn itself off.
Blue LED’s are blinking, now what?
The SmartRow is searching for a Bluetooth connection. Open the SmartRow app and press the Bluetooth button or go to settings to initiate a connection.
A red LED turns on, what does it mean?
Your batteries need to be replaced.
Blue LED’s within the SmartRow Power Pulley do not blink at all?
Start rowing a few strokes and the blue SmartRow LED’s should start to blink until you are connected. If not, please try the following:
- Check your batteries and/or the battery connection.
- Make sure the SmartRow Pulley is not already (automatically) connected to one of your devices. To be 100% sure, only enable Bluetooth on the device you want to pair with.
Blue LED’s are blinking but I can’t get a Bluetooth connection?
- Connect your SmartRow Power Pulley in the app only, and do not connect in the Bluetooth settings of your device. If this is the case, please reset
your BT configuration of your device and/or switch your Bluetooth off and on and try again. - Make sure you run the latest software on your device and update the SmartRow app regularly.
- Make sure Bluetooth and location services are enabled.
- If all the above does not solve the problem, please try to connect the SmartRow Pulley with a different phone or tablet.
I have a Bluetooth connection but it is not possible to start a workout?
Make sure your SmartRow Power Pulley is mounted correctly. If you are seated on your WaterRower, the SmartRow battery-cable must be at the left side. If not, the pulley is mounted in reverse.
Are you connected to the right SmartRow Power Pulley? If you initiate a connection the blinking blue LED’s should turn off within two seconds. If the LED’s of your SmartRow Power Pulley keep blinking, you are probably connected to a different Pulley. Here, the two digit ID-number of the SmartRow Power Pulley will come in handy.
Is there a warranty included with the SmartRow Power Pulley?
Ergometer Innovations BV warrants this product as free of defects in material, design and workmanship for the period of twenty-four months from the original date of receipt of the product.
- The warranty is only valid upon presentation of the proof of purchase for the product consisting of the original invoice or sales slip confirmation. Contact: info@smartrow.fit.
- Warranty repair may only be carried out by Ergometer Innovations BV.
- The warranty does not cover damage caused to the product by using improper cleaning materials or exposure to liquid or extreme thermal or environmental conditions.
How does the return process work?
We want you to be completely satisfied with your purchase. If for any reason you're not happy with your order, you can return it within 14 days of the delivery date.

Once we receive and inspect the returned Power Pulley, we will issue your refund within 5–10 business days to your original payment method. You will receive an email confirmation when your refund has been processed.
When will my order ship and how much does it cost?
Orders are typically processed and shipped within 1-3 business days after payment is received. You’ll receive a confirmation email with tracking information as soon as your order is on its way.
We currently ship only to The Netherlands and standard shipping usually takes 1-2 business days. Shipping costs are included in the product price.
