WHY POWER METERS?

Calibrated Power Measurement

What makes SmartRow so accurate?

SmartRow directly measures force and displacement instead of relying on acceleration-based estimates or monitor assumptions. Scientific studies have shown that conventional rowing ergometer monitor readings can underestimate actual mechanical power, especially during variable pacing and in the first strokes. By measuring directly rather than estimating, SmartRow delivers consistent accuracy regardless of recoil force, internal friction, stroke frequency, acceleration profile, water level, or damper setting.

SmartRow Power Pulley

Direct drive-system measurement

The Power Pulley measures force and displacement directly within the drive system. This provides precise and reliable power data without depending on indirect monitor calculations or machine-specific assumptions.

Direct measurement of force and displacement
Independent of built-in monitor estimates
Reliable across different rowing machine setups
SmartRow Power Handle

Enhanced by the patented Polygon Effect

The Power Handle uses the patented Polygon Effect to determine displacement with exceptional precision. By analyzing the actual motion of the chain and sprocket geometry in real time, it measures what is mechanically happening rather than estimating it from acceleration.

Uses the patented Polygon Effect
Tracks true chain and sprocket motion
Delivers highly precise displacement and power data

Studies comparing ergometer monitor output with external mechanical reference systems have shown that standard monitor readings can underestimate actual power, especially during variable pacing and at the start of an effort. SmartRow is designed to avoid that limitation by measuring force and displacement directly.
